Ricardo Camacho is a Pomona College Class of 2027 student majoring in Politics, with a second major in Economics. Their research interests include social policy and inequality, labor organizing, religious nationalism, democracy, and how governments sustain social protection during austerity and political turmoil.

Previous research experience: I assist Dr. Erica Dobbs on research into unionization efforts in the American South using the Justice for Janitors model, including building demographic and union-organizing databases from NLRB records. I also completed a summer research stay at Eurofound in Dublin studying how EU member states respond to child poverty through social protection, where I co-authored policy reports, created data visualizations, and performed statistical analysis.

How I got started: I became Dr. Dobbs's research assistant after discussing their work during office hours. I found the Eurofound position through the EU Center at Scripps College, which funds a summer research opportunity for Claremont Colleges juniors.
