Josephine Yip is a Pomona College Class of 2026 graduate who majored in Psychological Science and Linguistics. Her research interests focus on how culture, context, schooling, and family influences shape emotional development and parent-child interactions, especially through studies combining behavioral measures with physiological or neural measures of emotional competence.

Previous research experience: As an undergraduate, I primarily worked in a cultural neuropsychology lab, assisting with study coordination and data collection. I also worked in a cognitive development lab and completed a summer internship focused on interventions for children with ADHD. My two senior capstones examined parental emotion socialization and Cantonese sentence-final particle usage.

How I got started: I looked for research assistant openings on lab websites and cold-emailed professors in my department. I also asked my advisor about ways to get involved after taking a class with them, which led to joining their lab the following semester.
