Jessica Tong is a Pomona College Class of 2027 student majoring in Computer Science, with a second major in Psychological Science. Their interests span human-computer interaction, social and cultural psychology, technology in mental health, and Asian American psychology.

Previous research experience: I completed an NSF REU at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute working on AI and data tools for stroke treatment, using literature review, stakeholder interviews, participatory design, and ML prototyping. I have also worked in a psychology/neuroscience lab on cultural differences in emotion suppression using fNIRS, and conducted research in computer security and privacy and cultural mental health.

How I got started: I got to know the professor and TAs in my introductory psychology course and asked at the end of the semester if I could join the professor's lab. That led to a summer research opportunity.
