Samora Lumonya is a Grinnell College Class of 2027 student majoring in Economics, with a second major in Political Science. Their interests center on using quantitative tools from economics and finance to make capital markets more equitable and to evaluate policy outcomes, with a longer-term interest in law, antitrust, securities regulation, and economic policy.

Previous research experience: I worked on a Grinnell Economics Department project studying how state welfare spending affects college enrollment. I cleaned and organized data for all 50 states over a 10-year period and ran fixed-effects regressions; the results suggested that differences between states, rather than welfare spending itself, were the main driver of enrollment outcomes.

How I got started: I partnered with a classmate in a course required for my major to work through the project.
