James Constant is a Colgate University Class of 2027 student majoring in Political Science. Their research interests sit at the intersection of communitarian and postliberal political theory, political realism, and the Catholic natural law tradition, with particular interest in subsidiarity, mediating institutions, state and local governance, and democratic design.

Previous research experience: I currently serve as a research assistant to Professor Hedberg on a book project examining Russia sanctions policy, supporting archival and background research as well as citation and manuscript preparation. I have also assisted Professor Aatif Abbas on a book project examining the ethics of sweatshop labor in a similar capacity.

How I got started: I found both research assistant roles through my school's student research portal. For my remaining semesters or post-graduate work, I hope to pursue a project closer to my interests in political theory and public policy by identifying faculty in that niche, reaching out directly, or developing an independent project.
