Lucia studies Classical Civilization-English and Studio Art, with research interests in Roman archaeology, material culture, archives, art, and the relationship between objects and historical interpretation.

Previous research experience: Classics Research Assistant at Colby managing and categorizing Roman artifacts from the archaeological site of Cosa in Airtable, editing artifact photographs for publication, and maintaining object-labeling systems. Worked as a student archaeologist at the Cosa Excavations on a Roman bath complex and as an archives intern at the American Academy in Rome, where she helped reconnect mislabeled artifacts with their archaeological contexts and built a new database/labeling system.

How I got started: I liked classics, but I also wanted to work with actual objects. At Cosa I got to do that through excavation. The archives and database work showed me how much depends on keeping track of where an object came from and what it was found with.
