Luke Brown is a Carleton College Class of 2026 alum who studied Psychology/Neuroscience and is now a postbaccalaureate research associate at Dartmouth College. His interests center on behavioral neuroscience and the ways learning, stress, and environmental context shape behavior, with an additional interest in field-based and interdisciplinary approaches.

Previous research experience: I have worked as a research assistant at Carleton and the University of Notre Dame and completed independent research in Monteverde, Costa Rica. In a typical project I am most interested in the hands-on parts of research: building protocols, collecting behavioral or physiological data, keeping careful records, and then using quantitative analysis to understand patterns that are not obvious from observation alone.

How I got started: I got started by treating research as something I could learn by doing rather than something I needed to be fully prepared for first. I reached out to faculty, took on smaller data-collection and lab responsibilities, and used those early experiences to figure out which kinds of questions I wanted to pursue more seriously.
