Lily Shure is a Carleton College Class of 2027 Physics major with research experience at Carleton and Argonne National Laboratory. Her interests center on experimental physics and energy-related materials, especially research that connects fundamental physical measurements to larger clean-energy or environmental challenges.

Previous research experience: I have worked as a research assistant at Carleton, completed a research internship at Argonne National Laboratory, and previously had experience in chemical engineering at Northwestern. A realistic project for me would involve preparing samples, running instrument-based measurements, writing Python scripts to clean and visualize data, and comparing experimental results with a physical model.

How I got started: I got started by taking lab courses seriously and asking faculty what the difference was between a class experiment and the open-ended work happening in their research groups. After joining a campus project, I used that experience to apply to larger summer research programs and national-lab opportunities.
