Laura Boyd is a Carleton College Class of 2025 alum who studied Psychology and now works in education. Her research interests connect psychology, learning differences, and education, particularly how executive functioning, motivation, and classroom environments shape the experiences of students who learn differently.

Previous research experience: I have worked as a psychology laboratory research assistant at Carleton and later brought that perspective into roles with Mental Health Minnesota, educational programs, and now Winston Preparatory School. A realistic research project for me would combine behavioral or survey data with close observation of how students respond to different supports, with the goal of making educational interventions more useful in practice.

How I got started: I got started through psychology coursework and by talking with faculty about how the questions we discussed in class were actually studied. Joining a lab helped me learn the practical side of research, from reading articles and coding data to thinking carefully about how a study translates to real people.
