Kiana Feldis is a Carleton College Class of 2028 student studying Mathematics and Physics. Her research interests focus on computational and quantum physics, especially how mathematical modeling and numerical methods can be used to study quantum systems that are difficult to analyze directly.
Previous research experience: I work as a research assistant at Carleton and completed a summer quantum research position at the Zuse Institute Berlin. A realistic project for me would involve implementing a numerical method, testing it on simplified quantum systems, checking the stability and accuracy of the results, and then comparing computational behavior with the underlying physics. My mechanical engineering internship also gave me experience with design constraints and turning mathematical ideas into physical systems.
How I got started: I got started by building enough comfort with linear algebra, programming, and physics to contribute to a defined piece of a larger problem. I talked with faculty about summer options, applied to programs that matched my computational interests, and used the first project to identify which parts of quantum research I actually enjoyed.
Open to being contacted: Maybe, ask me first
