Kayla Marx is a Carleton College Class of 2028 Biology major and student-athlete with pre-veterinary interests. Her research interests focus on wildlife conservation, animal health, and disease ecology, particularly questions where field biology can inform veterinary or conservation decisions.

Previous research experience: I have worked as a research assistant at Carleton since 2025. A realistic project for me would combine field sampling or species observations with lab processing and basic ecological analysis to understand how habitat, health, and disease interact in wildlife populations. My earlier work in the Environmental Studies office also made me more aware of how conservation research connects to policy and community decisions.

How I got started: I got started by paying attention to the faculty and projects I encountered through the biology and environmental studies communities. I asked a professor if there was a way to help before I had a fully formed research idea, which made the first step much less intimidating.
