Jenny Tang is a Carleton College Class of 2028 student studying Political Science and International Relations and Asian Studies with a minor in Japanese. Her interests focus on East Asian politics, law, and public opinion, especially how political institutions and historical memory shape relations among China, Japan, and the broader region.

Previous research experience: I have worked as a research assistant at Carleton and the University of Minnesota and have also been a research partner at Carleton. In a realistic project, I would be comfortable coding policy documents, reviewing English- and Japanese-language sources, building timelines or datasets, and helping analyze public opinion or institutional change. Studying at Doshisha University also gives me a strong reason to connect language study with research rather than treating them as separate tracks.

How I got started: I got started by following questions from my political science courses into office hours and then asking faculty what parts of their research an undergraduate could realistically help with. Language study became another entry point because it opened up sources and perspectives I could not access otherwise.
