Henry Fisher is a Carleton College Class of 2029 student studying Geology and Mathematics. His research interests center on applied geoscience, environmental monitoring, and the use of quantitative and geospatial methods to understand infrastructure, land, and water systems.

Previous research experience: I work as a Geology Department Assistant at Carleton and have also interned with the Chicago Department of Aviation. A realistic research project for me would involve field observations, GIS or spatial data, basic geologic mapping, and quantitative analysis of environmental conditions around major infrastructure. I am especially interested in research where the scientific question has an obvious connection to how cities plan, build, and manage physical systems.

How I got started: I got started through department work that put me around faculty, labs, maps, and field equipment. Rather than cold-emailing someone I had never met, I used those everyday conversations to ask what research projects needed another set of hands and what skills I should learn first.
