Octavia studies Biology and Communications and is interested in science storytelling, field research, animals, photography, video, and making research understandable to wider audiences.

Previous research experience: Biology Lab Assistant at Berry College, preparing teaching labs and handling a wide range of laboratory setup and cleanup tasks. In summer 2026, worked through Berry's SURF program as a communications associate/media manager for Dr. Saylor's research team, accompanying researchers in the field, photographing and filming their work, and producing social-media content about the project.

How I got started: I like animals and I like telling stories, so the SURF communications role was a good fit for both my majors. I'd been working in the biology labs already, then I got to go out with Dr. Saylor's team and photograph and film what they were doing.
