Maddie Weinstein is a Bates College Class of 2027 student studying Environmental Studies with a focus on Ecology and Earth Systems. Their current research examines how Astrangia poculata corals interact with their ecological communities, including direct competition with other benthic organisms.

Previous research experience: This summer is my first formal research experience, working in a small Environmental Studies lab.

How I got started: I spoke with my advisor about their research and my path toward an upcoming thesis. Rather than applying through a posted position, I wrote multiple proposals and ultimately joined the lab as an assistant.
