Bio: Isa Maeder is a Bates College Class of 2027 student majoring in Environmental Studies with an Ecology concentration. Their interests include microbial ecology and symbiosis, conservation, sustainable agriculture, and community involvement in environmental work.

Previous research experience: I have worked in a plant bacteriology lab studying antibiosis and plant growth, conducted independent research on rainforest lichens along an altitudinal gradient in Tanzania, and currently research Lake Auburn's water quality and microbial ecosystem with Dr. Holly Ewing.

How I got started: I built experience through lab- and field-based courses, an REU at Montana State University, research-oriented study abroad in Tanzania, and then a summer research position with my Bates academic advisor.
