Erik Lindholm is a Bates College Class of 2027 student majoring in Earth and Climate Science and Biochemistry. His research interests focus on soils and sediments as tools for understanding present and past ecosystem functions, especially in sustainable agriculture and environmental reconstruction. He is particularly interested in molecular methods and microbiology.

Previous research experience: I completed a summer research project at the University Centre in Svalbard exploring the impact and distribution of grain sizes on cryoconite aggregation. I also received a grant for a summer project examining how different intercropping treatments affect soil microbial communities and carbon content.

How I got started: My first research project grew from a proposal I wrote for a course. I later had the opportunity to develop it into an independent project while working on a farm, with laboratory support from my academic departments.
