Ells Goroshnikova is a Bates College Class of 2028 student studying Sociology and Digital and Computational Studies with a minor in European Studies. Their research interests focus on how data and analytics can inform healthcare policy, especially how administrative data such as claims and network data can reveal gaps in access to care and support more effective policy in systems such as Medicaid.

Previous research experience: I worked as an NSF Research Assistant in Professor Sandra Goff's lab at Bates, studying payment for ecosystem services through economic experiments and agent-based modeling. I designed and deployed a Qualtrics survey experiment for landowners. I have also worked as a Data Analyst Intern at Maine DHHS, where I lead a mixed-methods research project on HIV/PrEP access using Medicaid claims data, focus groups, and IRB coordination, with the aim of publication.

How I got started: I reached out to Professor Sandra Goff after learning about her NSF-funded research on payment for ecosystem services. I began with survey design and data-collection tasks, which grew into a more substantial role on the project. My Maine DHHS work came through a separate application for a formal internship.
